Proposed strategy with joomla updates / disappeared icons after joomla update

Hello,

I have currently two questions:

a) What is your proposed strategy with joomla updates for your templates?

b) Some icons disappeared after the done joomla update. What is necessary to have them again available and which other things to check are important after such an update for your templates?
